KANPUR: Sandeep Shukla (45), a spokesperson of the BJP’s Delhi unit, and his wife Anita (42) died in a road accident while five others, including their three minor children, suffered injuries on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway near Thatia area in Kannauj district during early hours of Sunday.
Sandeep’s car was hit by a speeding truck following which he lost control over the vehicle and it turned turtle after crashing into the divider.
Sandeep, his wife Anita, besides five others including their three minors sons and his two cousins, were immediately taken to the Tirwa medical college. Upon examination, the doctors declared Sandeep and his wife Anita dead, police said.
Inspector Thatia police station Raj Kumar said, “The incident had occurred at around 4.30am. On being informed, Thatia police, besides UPEIDA personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Sandeep’s three sons — Siddarth (10), Abhinav (6) and Arav (3), besides his two cousins identified as Amit Kumar (19) and Aryan Sharma (23), who reside in their neighbourhood and who sustained injuries, have been admitted to Tirwa medical college.”
“Sandeep along with his family and two neighbours were on the way to Pratapgarh to attend a marriage function of their relative.
As per his cousins, Sandeep, a resident of Sangam Vihar area of New Delhi, was a spokesperson of BJP’s Delhi unit,” said inspector adding,”Searches are under way to arrest the truck driver who sped away along with the vehicle soon after the mishap. BJP leaders’ family has been informed about the incident.”
